Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling, ground fighting, and submission techniques. Its core idea is that a smaller or weaker person can defend themselves against a larger opponent by using leverage, balance, timing, and proper technique instead of strength.
In BJJ, practitioners learn how to:
Control an opponent through positions (such as guard, mount, and side control)
Apply submissions like chokes and joint locks to make an opponent tap
Escape from bad positions and defend against attacks
Training usually involves:
Technique drills to learn specific moves
Sparring (rolling), where partners practice in a controlled, safe way
A strong emphasis on respect, discipline, and safety
BJJ is practiced for self-defense, competition, fitness, and mental focus. It is also a foundational martial art used in mixed martial arts (MMA).
